Lipo Injection

The fat distribution on our bodies varies by individual and is determined by factors we can’t control (genetics), as well as factors we can control (diet, exercise, and cosmetic treatments). Many people are unhappy with certain areas of their bodies and wish that they could augment certain features while toning others. Unfortunately, these aesthetic goals can’t always be achieved with diet and exercise, no matter how strict the regimen may be. The development of the liposuction fat transfer procedure allows surgeons to remove fat from one area of a patient’s body, and then inject it into another area of the body.

Liposuction
Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures that is performed in the United States. There are various liposuction techniques available, but in the majority of cases surgeons put the patient under local anesthesia and inject fluid into the treatment area to make fat cells easier to remove. Next, the surgeon will create an incision through which the cannula is inserted to suction out excess fat. In the past, the fat that was removed from the body was disposed of; today, a small number of plastic surgeons will inject the fat back into the body or face to improve the patient’s appearance.

Fat Transfer
During the autologous fat transplantation or micro-lipoinjection treatment, fat is harvested and injected into the breasts or buttocks to produce more lift and volume, or into facial lines to plump up the skin and minimize the appearance of wrinkles. The results of the fat transfer procedure vary by patient, and surgeons and medical technology companies are continually striving to improve the efficacy of the treatment.
